**Georgian Politician Lasha Tugushi Warns of Growing Power Concentration and Threat to European Integration**
In a recent interview with PalitraNews, Chairman of the Liberal Academy Lasha Tugushi expressed his deep concern about the current developments in Georgia’s political landscape. According to him, the country is witnessing a growing concentration of power that threatens its European integration goals.
Tugushi emphasized that the decision to abolish the Special Investigation Service and transfer its functions to the Prosecutor General’s Office, as well as relocating the Intelligence Service under the State Security Service, is aimed at consolidating power in the hands of the ruling party, Georgian Dream. This move, he claimed, contradicts Georgia’s goal of European integration.
**A Blow to External Security**
Tugushi warned that the subordination of intelligence services to the State Security Service is a serious mistake that will compromise external security. He explained that separating intelligence and counterintelligence under one roof can create a conflict of interest, which may lead to serious consequences for the country’s security. The Chairman also hinted at the involvement of Russia in these developments, stating that “the Russian line is strongly at play here.”
**Purges in the Security Sector and Judiciary**
Tugushi also addressed the recent departures from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ongoing purges within the security sector and judicial institutions. He pointed out that individuals who have built their careers over decades are being forced to leave, taking with them crucial knowledge and experience.
**Pressure on Opposition Leaders**
Regarding the parliamentary investigative commission, Tugushi warned about the potential arrest of certain opposition leaders due to their refusal to cooperate. He described this move as an attempt to destroy the opposition and fulfill a promise made by Bidzina Ivanishvili last year.
As Tugushi noted, “Georgian Dream will go as far as they are able.” This statement reflects his concerns about the growing concentration of power in the hands of the ruling party and its implications for Georgia’s democracy and European integration goals.
