Parliament Fails to Respond to New President’s Address
A key moment in Georgia’s parliament was missed when the ruling party failed to speak after a new president addressed them.
Mikheil Kavlashvili is the newly elected president. He spoke at a meeting of the parliamentary session. However, the main opposition group did not use their chance to respond.
The rules say that after the president speaks, leaders of different groups should also be allowed to talk for 10 minutes. But this time, no one from these groups stood up to speak.
Instead of responding, the Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, thanked Kavlashvili and ended the session.
