In the case of Gela Udzilauri, accused of the contract murder of Levan Jangveladze, brother of the so-called “thief-in-law” Merab Jangveladze, and the attempted murder of his driver, Gia Chaduneli, Giorgi Mikadze refused to testify.
He himself is charged in a separate case related to the contract killing of Levan Jangveladze and was summoned by the Prosecutor’s Office to testify in court. However, according to the record presented from Rustavi Penitentiary No. 6, he refused both to appear in court and to give testimony.
“As you know, I was summoned in the case of Gela Udzilauri at Tbilisi City Court. I am exercising the right granted to me by the Constitution and I refuse to testify against myself,” Mikadze stated in the presented record.
The same position was taken by Giorgi Kachkachashvili, who was also summoned as a defendant and witness.
As for Mamuka Baghdavadze, he is expected to testify at the next court hearing.
For context, Gela Udzilauri is charged with the contract murder of Levan Jangveladze.
The incident took place on March 14, 2025, at 23:30 on Ilia Chavchavadze Avenue in Tbilisi. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Udilauri fired multiple shots at Levan Jangveladze and his driver Gia Chaduneli in a crowded area. As a result of multiple injuries, Jangveladze died on the spot, while Chaduneli, wounded by gunfire, was taken to the hospital.
Udzilauri has been charged under Article 19-109, subparagraphs “b” and “l” of the Criminal Code of Georgia (attempted premeditated murder against two persons, committed in a manner endangering the lives and health of others), and under Article 236, parts 3 and 4 (illegal acquisition, possession, and carrying of firearms). The charges provide for a sentence of 16 to 20 years in prison, or life imprisonment.
