The head of one non-governmental organization transferred funds to Aleko Tskitishvili’s organization’s account with the stated purpose: “For a glorious victory.” We are interested in what these funds were, who was supposed to achieve victory, and what the purpose was, – Prosecutor Lasha Kotrikadze told journalists, explaining why Aleko Tskitishvili, the head of the Human Rights Center, was summoned as a witness for questioning in connection with the so-called sabotage case.
As Lasha Kotrikadze noted, the investigation has questions specifically regarding the transfers made to Tskitishvili’s organization’s accounts during the protests in November-December 2024.
“During the protest period, funds were transferred to his organization’s accounts, including transfers from politicians and other non-governmental organizations. For example, the head of one non-governmental organization transferred funds to his account with the stated purpose: ‘For a glorious victory.’ Accordingly, we are, of course, interested in what these funds were, who was supposed to achieve victory, and what the purpose was. Additionally, he also participated in these protests, and we are interested in his role, whether he has information about who the organizers were, and what their common goal was,” – Lasha Kotrikadze stated before the questioning began.
As for Aleko Tskitishvili himself, he answered the investigation’s questions regarding the so-called sabotage case at the Tbilisi City Court in the presence of a magistrate judge.
For reference, on August 27, the prosecution released information stating that the Tbilisi City Court had approved the prosecution’s motion to place liens on the bank accounts of the following organizations: International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy, Institute for Development of Freedom of Information, Defenders of Democracy, Georgia’s Democratic Initiative, Sapari, and the Social Justice Center.
According to the prosecution, the case concerns an investigation conducted by the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office into sabotage, attempted sabotage under aggravating circumstances, assistance in hostile activities for a foreign organization or an organization under foreign control, and the mobilization of finances for activities aimed against Georgia’s constitutional order and national security. Later, the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office summoned the heads of certain non-governmental organizations for questioning as witnesses.
