MEPs Support Jailed Journalist in European Parliament.
A group of EU parliament members showed their support for a jailed Georgian journalist, Mzia Amaghlobeli. The action was organized by Petras Auštrevičius, an MEP from Lithuania.
The supporters brought a flag and posters with the slogan “Free Mzia Amaghlobeli!” They were trying to draw attention to Amaghlobeli’s hunger strike that has been going on for 25 days.
Mzia Amaghlobeli is the founder of two Georgian news websites: Batumelebi and Netgazeti. She was arrested under a criminal charge, claiming she assaulted a police officer. This is not true – she was detained twice in the past, first under administrative law, and then again shortly after being released.
