“When we talk about principles, the fight that began on October 26 should not have been abandoned halfway, and they should have stuck to the consistent position we had from the morning of October 27,” said Levan Sanikidze, one of the leaders of the “United National Movement,” regarding the parties participating in the October 4 local elections. According to Sanikidze, these parties compromised, while the “United National Movement” remained in an uncompromising fight.
“I am confident that the path to success would have been much easier for our supporters and pro-Western voters now than it will be in the coming months. They went for a compromise. The parties that remained in the uncompromising fight, particularly the ‘United National Movement,’ are making every sacrifice in this struggle from a party perspective, which includes giving up parliamentary mandates, refusing state budget funding, losing an electoral number, and giving up hundreds of mandates in the city council,” Sanikidze stated.
Regarding the candidates for Tbilisi City Council announced by “Lelo for Strong Georgia” and “Gakharia for Georgia,” Levan Sanikidze stated that it does not matter what combination they offer to opposition voters, as the majority of opposition voters do not recognize the elections.
“Today, I think this matter is less relevant because when 80% of opposition voters do not intend to show up at the so-called polling stations, it doesn’t matter what combination they offer to opposition voters. This is because the critical part of our society, especially the opposition, is convinced that no elections are being held on October 4, but rather a Russian special operation aimed at legitimizing Ivanishvili and normalizing the situation in the country,” Sanikidze declared.
