Eka Beselia, the lawyer, visited Vakho Sanaia, the host of Formula TV, at the Mtskheta temporary detention facility.
In a conversation with Interpressnews, Beselia explained that Sanaia is feeling well.
“He is in good spirits and health; there are no issues regarding his treatment at the facility, and they treat him respectfully and ethically. There is no TV there, and the only thing he is concerned about is what is happening on Rustaveli Avenue, whether people are gathering again, as he considers maintaining Rustaveli as the main epicenter of protest to be important and asks everyone about it. We discussed the details of his detention, and of course, the imprisonment was unequivocally unlawful because it was not a proportionate measure to his protest. The law he is challenging is unconstitutional and contradicts international legal principles. His protest was completely legitimate, and therefore, the administrative detention used against him is unlawful. Otherwise, he is in good spirits, and I promised to visit him during these days to check on his condition daily,” Beselia stated.
Regarding his reaction to the detention of his colleague, Keta Tsitskishvili, Beselia responded that Sanaia first asked about her.
“When I entered, the first thing he asked about was Keta. He knew about her detention from her lawyer but didn’t know what decision had been made regarding her, and he was worried about it. However, he said that Keta is strong too,” Beselia stated.
The Tbilisi City Court imposed a 6-day administrative detention on Vakho Sanaia the day before yesterday. The Ministry of Internal Affairs requested the use of administrative detention against him. Sanaia was accused of “artificially blocking the road” on Rustaveli Avenue.
