**Tbilisi Mayor Election: Aleko Elisashvili Ready to Take on Kakha Kaladze**
Aleko Elisashvili, a leader of the “Lelo for a Strong Georgia” party, has announced that he is ready to run for Tbilisi mayor if his party decides to nominate him. In an interview with PalitraNews, Elisashvili stated that while he knows it won’t be an easy fight, he is confident in his ability to lead the city.
Elisashvili’s potential candidacy comes as Kakha Kaladze, the current Tbilisi mayor and a member of the “Georgian Dream” party, seeks a third term in office. Elisashvili was critical of Kaladze’s leadership, saying that he has been corrupt and bribe-taking during his two terms in office.
“I have no doubt that Kakha Kaladze is the most corrupt mayor Tbilisi has ever had,” Elisashvili said. “He sees Tbilisi as a city of opportunities for himself and his friends, not for its citizens.”
Elisashvili pointed to several examples of alleged corruption under Kaladze’s leadership, including the slow progress on metro projects and the lack of transparency in government contracts.
“If we want to fight corruption, we must remove these corrupt scoundrels from power,” Elisashvili stated.
Despite being a potential candidate himself, Elisashvili expressed support for nominating a politically neutral candidate for Tbilisi mayor. He also emphasized that he is not interested in any position and will only run if his party decides to nominate him.
“If I have public support, I’m ready to run,” Elisashvili said. “I won’t hold back anywhere! I would be a thousand times better mayor than Kakha Kaladze!”
Elisashvili’s comments come as the city prepares for municipal elections later this year. The election is expected to be closely watched, and Elisashvili’s potential candidacy could shake up the political landscape in Tbilisi.
**What’s Next?**
The future of the Tbilisi mayor election remains uncertain, with several candidates potentially vying for the position. As the city prepares for municipal elections, it will be interesting to see how Kaladze and his supporters respond to Elisashvili’s challenge.
One thing is clear: the people of Tbilisi deserve a transparent and accountable government that prioritizes their needs over personal interests. Only time will tell if Elisashvili’s candidacy can bring about change in the city.
