New Rules for Election Observers
Changes are being made to the “Election Code”. These changes will affect leaders and observers of organizations that watch elections.
These leaders and observers will not be allowed to take part in pre-election campaigning. The goal is to keep them separate from parties and politicians.
The rules also change how local observers, journalists, and representatives of electoral groups are chosen.
Some MPs think this will make it clearer where the line is between politics and non-politics.
Ten parliament members have written a bill that includes these changes.
