According to Beka Basilaia, the lawyer of Murtaz Zodelava, who was detained in connection with the October 4 events, Zodelava’s interrogation at the Tbilisi City Court was an attempt to link him to the so-called weapons case.
As the lawyer explained to journalists after Zodelava’s interrogation, his client has no connection to the aforementioned case.
When asked whether it is likely that Zodelava could face charges related to the so-called weapons case, Basilaia called it “absurd.”
“Murtaz Zodelava’s interrogation was aimed at continuing the government’s weak propaganda through the SSS, trying to link him to the so-called weapons case. This connection won’t hold. That’s why our decision was clear – we will come and answer any questions to demonstrate clearly to the SSS, to Murusidze’s pocket court, and, most importantly, to the public that what the SSS is talking about has no connection to Murtaz Zodelava. Questions were asked about that ‘case’ – whether he knows anyone or had any contact. Very clear, straightforward, and comprehensive answers were given, and the propaganda was exposed. You can see, for example, that when the preventive measure was imposed, the prosecution spoke to the media, but today no one commented because it was clear that today’s interrogation was futile for them. Their attempt to link Murtaz Zodelava to that ‘case’ in any way has failed,” stated Beka Basilaia.
