Today, October 4, local elections are underway in Georgia. Voters in 64 municipalities across the country will elect new municipal councils and mayors of self-governing cities. More specifically, 64 mayors and 2,058 members of 64 municipal councils will be elected for a 4-year term.
12 political parties have registered for the municipal elections. All 12 parties have submitted party lists for the Tbilisi City Council elections.
In addition, some opposition groups are boycotting the local self-government elections. The National Movement, the Coalition for Change, the Federalists and other opposition groups have refused to participate in the October 4 elections. The Lelo-Strong Georgia party and the Gakharia for Georgia party are participating in the elections. These two parties agreed to cooperate within the framework of the elections, signed a relevant memorandum, and presented joint candidates in several electoral districts.

There are 9 mayoral candidates registered in Tbilisi. They are:
Kakha Kukava – Free Georgia;
Zurab Makharadze – Conservatives for Georgia;
Irakli Kupradze – joint candidate of Strong Georgia-Lelo and Gakharia for Georgia;
Otar Chitanava – Alliance of Patriots of Georgia;
Kakha Kaladze – Georgian Dream;
Giorgi Liluashvili – Georgia;
Teimuraz Bokelavadze – Homeland, Language, Faith;
Iago Khvichia – Girchi.
