The Union Sapari has issued a statement regarding the seizure of the accounts of 7 non-governmental organizations. According to them, the information spread by the Prosecutor’s Office that Safari funds were used to organize violent actions and purchase equipment is completely unfounded and slanderous.
“Sapari calls on the Georgian Dream party to immediately lift the seizure of the accounts and “stop Russian repressions against its own people”.
“On August 27, by the decision of the Tbilisi City Court, based on the request of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, the bank accounts of Sapari were seized. Sapari has been working for 24 years to protect the rights of women and girls, combat gender violence and promote equality. We are proud that we have helped thousands of women and children over these years, helping them stop violence, restore justice and generally survive. Our work has always been aimed at empowering women socially, economically, and politically. The information spread by the Prosecutor’s Office that Sapari’s funds were used to organize violent actions and purchase equipment is completely unfounded and slanderous. There is not a single piece of evidence against us. This decision once again demonstrates the intensification of Russian-style repression against Georgian non-governmental organizations, which aims to suppress critical voices and destroy civil society. Today, the democratic development of the country and the security of every person who defends freedom and justice, who defends the freedom and independence of Georgia, are under threat. We declare that Sapari continues to fight for truth and justice both in Georgia and internationally. We call on the Georgian Dream to immediately lift the ban and stop Russian repression against its own people. We also call on the international community to respond to the unprecedented attack on civil society in Georgia. We appeal to women and children who are victims of violence, contact us if you need our help to save your rights, health and life. We will continue to help you voluntarily as long as we can, because Sapari is a team gathered for the idea of equality and the protection of human dignity, consisting of freedom-loving patriotic citizens,” reads the statement of the Safar Union.
For information, at the request of the prosecutor’s office, the court seized the accounts of 7 non-governmental organizations.
