The Public Defender of Georgia welcomes another acquittal verdict issued by the Tbilisi City Court in favor of Tevdore Abramovi.
According to the Public Defender’s Office, on April 14, 2025, the Public Defender submitted an Amicus Curiae opinion to the Tbilisi City Court regarding Tevdore Abramovi’s case, emphasizing the necessity of adhering to the standards of the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights to ensure neutral evidence during personal searches.
The office also stated that the Public Defender hopes the acquittal verdict in favor of Tevdore Abramovi will have a positive impact on establishing the obligation of the police to obtain neutral evidence and on the development of proper judicial practice.
“The Public Defender reiterates that in cases where law enforcement officers have the objective ability to obtain neutral evidence, including video recordings, during a search but fail to do so, and the prosecution relies solely on police testimonies, such practice cannot be considered compliant with human rights standards, especially in terms of holding a person accountable.
The Public Defender hopes that the acquittal verdict in favor of Tevdore Abramovi will positively influence the establishment of the police’s obligation to obtain neutral evidence and contribute to the development of proper judicial practice,” the statement reads.
