**Russia’s Heavy Losses in Ukraine War**
The war between Russia and Ukraine has been a long and bloody one. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russia has lost almost 250,000 soldiers.
**Casualties Mounting**
Zelensky also claimed that Moscow lost nearly 20,000 soldiers in battles for the Russian region of Kursk Oblast alone. In addition, over 610,000 Russian troops have been wounded since February 24, 2022.
**Matching Estimates**
The president’s estimates match those of Ukraine’s General Staff. They say Russia has lost a total of 856,660 troops in Ukraine since 2022.
**North Korean Troops Also Suffering**
Zelensky also mentioned that up to 12,000 North Korean troops were deployed to Kursk Oblast last fall to support Russian forces. These troops have suffered heavy losses, with over 4,000 casualties, two-thirds of whom have been killed.
**Lack of Combat Experience**
Ukraine’s military intelligence chief, Kyrylo Budanov, said that the North Korean army’s lack of combat experience and its tactic of human waves attacks with limited equipment may be to blame for their heavy losses.
