**Russia Attacks Ukraine with Hundreds of Drones and Missiles**

Over the past week, Russian forces launched a huge number of attacks on Ukraine. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russia sent around 550 attack drones, nearly 60 missiles, and more than 660 aerial bombs against Ukraine.

These attacks targeted several areas in Ukraine, including Lviv, Kharkiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Khmelnytskyi oblasts. On January 18, Kyiv was attacked with missiles, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuries to three others.

**Ukrainian Forces Fight Back**

Despite these attacks, the Ukrainian military has been fighting back. They shot down 33 missiles and 311 attack drones during the past week. Another 136 drones used in daily attacks on infrastructure did not reach their targets, according to Zelensky.

The president thanked all the soldiers, military aviation, anti-aircraft gunners, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups for their efforts. However, he emphasized that more needs to be done to strengthen Ukraine’s skies’ protection.

**Ukraine Requests More Air Defense Capabilities**

Ukraine has been lobbying international partners for more air defense capabilities in the wake of intensifying Russian strikes targeting civilian and energy infrastructure. President Zelensky stated that more Patriot air defenses would mean more protection of life, and more long-range capability would guarantee that the Russian war will be stopped.

**Ukraine Develops Its Own Air Defense Systems**

In addition to seeking international help, Ukraine is also working on developing its own air defense systems. Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi announced this effort in an interview with a Ukrainian news outlet.
