**Zelensky and Scholz Discuss Ways to End Ukraine War**

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone call with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on February 21. They discussed ways to achieve peace in Ukraine.

According to the German government, Scholz assured Zelensky that Germany will continue to support Ukraine until a just and lasting peace is achieved. This includes close coordination with European and international partners.

The phone call comes at a time of growing concern in Kyiv about Washington’s shifting stance on the war. The US recently held direct talks with Russia in Saudi Arabia, which has sparked worries among European allies.

US President Donald Trump also made comments about Zelensky, saying he is not essential to negotiations and accused him of being a “dictator.” This has prompted European leaders to seek a united strategy for ensuring Ukraine’s continued defense.

**Zelensky Responds to Trump**

Zelensky and Scholz agreed that Ukraine must be at the table in future peace talks. They also discussed the importance of close coordination between Ukraine and its closest partners.

Following the call, Zelensky announced that their discussion on ending the war was “substantive.” He thanked Scholz for Germany’s support, which has totaled 43.6 billion euros since Russia’s full-scale invasion.

**Ukrainians Oppose Peace Talks Without Participation**

A recent poll found that 91% of Ukrainians surveyed oppose peace negotiations between the US and Russia without Ukraine’s participation. This shows a strong desire among the Ukrainian people for their country to be involved in any peace talks.
