**Students Removed from Serbian Cultural Event**
A group of students was kicked out of the St Sava ceremony in Novi Sad, Serbia. They had stood up to read a poem but were accused by President Aleksandar Vucic of disrupting the event.
The students wanted to recite a poem written by Dragan Stanic, the director of Matica Srpska, back in 1981. However, security guards grabbed them and forced them out of the venue. A photo showed one guard grabbing a student by the neck.
**Students Protested Against Vucic**
The students’ actions were not without precedent. They had been protesting against President Vucic’s policies and were seeking justice. Stanic, who wrote the poem, had even supported Vucic in the 2023 elections.
But now, many employees at Matica Srpska are speaking out in support of the students. A statement on their website said: “We believe that the students are advocating for a just society… We condemn all forms of violence.”
**Vucic Reacts**
President Vucic responded to the incident with an Instagram video. He accused the students of disrupting the ceremony and called for a peaceful response from authorities.
“We will respond with all permitted, democratic and political means,” he said.
