**Serbian President Speaks Out**
Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic has spoken about the opposition’s concerns over his upcoming rally in Jagodina. He said that the rally, scheduled for 10 days ago, is a gathering of “smart and normal people who want a freedom-loving Serbia.”
In an interview from Davos, Vucic blamed the opposition for rising tensions in Serbia, saying they were driven by hysteria and anxiety over freedom to assemble. He also accused them of wanting to hang and punish political opponents.
**Free Assembly**
Vucic emphasized that his government considers the right to assembly sacred and fundamental to society. He said that the opposition has been free to express their views without consequences, but now “the Serbian people are finding it increasingly difficult to put up with that.”
He reassured that attendance at the rally would be entirely voluntary and free of any pressure.
**New Movement**
Vucic talked about a new movement he is forming to bring in fresh energy for Serbia. He called for a “purge” within his own party, the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), as well as within the government and local leadership. This is because some members have become complacent and mismanaged public funds.
He expressed trust in Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and Finance Minister Sinisa Mali, but had reservations about other ministers, directors, and mayors.
**Future Plans**
Vucic announced that he will deliver a different speech at the founding rally in Jagodina. He said this would focus on Serbia’s future objectives and aspirations. He also stated that new people need to be promoted and there needs to be more knowledge.
**No Constitutional Change**
The president made it clear that he will not change the Constitution to seek another presidential term. Instead, he plans to identify and support a suitable candidate for the upcoming election cycle.
