**Serbian President Visits Injured in North Macedonian Nightclub Fire**
In a surprise move, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic visited the University Clinical Center of Serbia (UKCS) on his own initiative to see those injured in the recent nightclub fire in Kocani, North Macedonia. This visit comes after student protesters made their sixth demand, calling for accountability over unauthorized access by individuals and journalists into the intensive care unit (ICU) where patients were being treated.
The students’ protest had been ongoing, with their six demands seeking greater transparency and respect for patient privacy. The incident in question involved media personnel and politicians accessing the ICU without permission, causing concern among hospital staff and patients’ families.
In response to these protests, President Vucic took it upon himself to visit the UKCS and see the patients injured in the North Macedonian fire. He acknowledged that he had gone to the hospital on his own initiative, stating “nobody wanted to let me in” but emphasized that he entered by himself, thereby meeting one of the students’ demands.
Speaking with Serbian reporters in Paris after a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, Vucic appeared to be making light of the situation. He referenced his role in renovating the Clinical Center and implied that his visit had solved the issue, saying “I’m the one to blame” for not respecting patient privacy.
