**US Congressman Proposes Bill to Help Ukraine**
A US Republican congressman named Joe Wilson has announced a plan to introduce a bill that would help the country of Ukraine. On February 10, Wilson said he will propose a new law called the Freedom First Lend-Lease Act.
This act would give US President Donald Trump the power to send weapons to Ukraine through a program called lend-lease. This means that the US president could loan or lease arms to Ukraine without needing approval from Congress.
Wilson believes this is necessary because of Russia’s actions in the region. He wants to “Bring Russia to the table” by showing strength and making them negotiate.
The details of the bill are unclear, including whether other members of Congress will support it. In December 2024, a US defense bill was passed without a provision to extend the lend-lease act for Ukraine. This program was first passed in May 2022 but expired in September 2023 without being used. Ukrainian diplomats have been asking for its reintroduction.
