**US Approves $104 Million Deal to Support Ukraine’s M777 Howitzers**
The US State Department has given the green light for a potential $104 million sale of equipment, repair services, and long-term support for Ukraine’s M777 howitzers. This announcement was made on August 5 by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
**A Boost to Ukraine’s Military Strength**
The package includes technical assistance, training, publications, and other logistical support from BAE Systems in the UK, which will act as the principal contractor. According to the agency, this deal will enhance Ukraine’s ability to defend itself and conduct regional security missions without upsetting the balance of power.
**Part of a Broader Effort**
This latest approval follows two previous deals announced by the State Department on July 24. The first package, worth around $150 million, covers equipment and services for maintaining M109 self-propelled howitzers. The second deal, valued at approximately $180 million, provides sustainment and upgrade support for air defense systems, including US-made Patriot missile systems.
