**UN Condemns Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine**

On February 24, the United Nations General Assembly voted on a resolution drafted by Ukraine. The resolution condemned Russia’s full-scale invasion and reaffirmed Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

93 countries voted in favor of the resolution, while 18 countries opposed it, including the U.S., Israel, Hungary, Russia, and Belarus. The resolution explicitly named Russia as the aggressor, which is a significant move against Russia’s actions.

**Two Resolutions Passed**

On the same day, the General Assembly also passed a separate U.S.-drafted resolution marking the third anniversary of the invasion. This resolution received 93 votes in favor, but it did not directly call Russia the aggressor. Ukraine abstained from voting on this version of the resolution.

**Shift in US Language**

This move by the U.S. aligns with recent efforts to soften language about Russia in international statements. U.S. officials, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, have declined to explicitly name Russia as the aggressor in interviews.

U.S. President Donald Trump has taken a similar stance, calling for a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia while adopting increasingly hostile rhetoric toward Kyiv. He recently referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as a “dictator” and falsely claimed that Ukraine started the war.
