**Tensions Rise in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk Oblast as Russian Forces Press On**
The situation around the 31st Separate Brigade’s positions in Ukraine’s Southern Defense Forces remains “tense” as Russian forces continue their efforts to break into Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. According to a report by the Southern Defense Forces on June 8, the enemy has not abandoned its plans to enter the region.
Despite this, Ukrainian authorities have not confirmed any ground incursions and no independent evidence has surfaced to support the Russian statement. This is not the first time Russia has made such claims – similar reports were rejected by Ukrainian officials in May, with Serhii Lysak, head of the regional military administration, calling them “fake” and citing doctored photos as evidence.
**A History of Aggression**
The area around Novopavlivka, where the 31st Brigade is deployed, has been heavily impacted by Russian aggression since 2014. While Dnipropetrovsk Oblast itself has remained free from direct incursions, it has endured frequent Russian missile, drone, and aerial attacks since the full-scale invasion began.
As a precaution, the region began mandatory evacuations of children and families from four front-line villages in late April – Kolona Mezhova, Novopidhorodne, Raipole, and Sukhareva Balka – located just 5 to 15 kilometers from Russian positions. This is a stark reminder of the dangers faced by civilians in areas under threat.
**Peace Efforts Stall**
The ongoing Russian advance occurs as peace efforts remain stalled, with U.S.-brokered negotiations failing to achieve a ceasefire. The situation on the ground remains tense, and it’s unclear what the future holds for Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
