**Ukraine’s Air Force Revolution: From Lone Wolves to Team Players**

In a significant shift in Ukraine’s skies, the country’s air force is now employing complex team tactics to take down Russian air defenses. Gone are the days of lone wolf pilots; instead, Ukrainian warplanes are now working together with surgical precision to clear a path for other missions.

**A New Era in Air Warfare**

The dramatic video shared online on Monday shows a Ukrainian Su-27 from the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade destroying a Russian surface-to-air missile system (SAM) using an HARM missile. This was not a solo operation, but rather part of a coordinated team effort where the Su-27 provided escort for other strike group aircraft.

**Lessons from the Past**

The Ukrainian air force has learned from history, particularly from the experiences of Soviet pilots who fought against Western forces during the Cold War era. When these Soviet jets encountered Western warplanes in formation, they were forced to adapt and learn how to operate in teams themselves. This experience has now been passed down to modern Ukrainian pilots.

**Upgraded Fleet**

The Ukrainian air force is undergoing a significant upgrade with the delivery of up to 85 Lockheed Martin F-16s from a Danish-Dutch-Norwegian consortium, as well as a dozen or more Dassault Mirage 2000 fighters from France. These Western jets complement Ukraine’s existing pre-war fleet of Soviet-made warplanes, including Su-24 bombers, Su-25 attack jets, Su-27s, and Mikoyan MiG-29 fighters.
