**Russian Troops Resort to “Total Infiltration” Tactics in Front-Line Pokrovsk, Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Says**
The embattled town of Pokrovsk in Donetsk Oblast has become a major flashpoint on the front line between Russian and Ukrainian forces. According to Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the situation remains “most difficult” due to Russia’s tactics of employing total infiltration and sabotage activities.
For months now, Pokrovsk has been one of the most contested battlegrounds in eastern Ukraine, with Russian forces attempting to breach Ukraine’s defenses. Syrskyi recently visited command posts near Pokrovsk and reported that the enemy is intensifying its efforts to capture key areas, seeking vulnerabilities in Ukrainian defense lines.
**A Tale of Two Tactics**
Russian troops are employing two distinct tactics in their bid to gain control over Pokrovsk: total infiltration and sabotage activities. The former involves small groups of Russian soldiers attempting to infiltrate Ukrainian territory, often under the guise of civilians or other non-combatants. These units then conduct raids and attacks on Ukrainian positions, hoping to catch enemy forces off guard.
The latter tactic involves Russia’s special operations units conducting clandestine missions in Ukrainian rear areas. These missions may involve disrupting supply lines, gathering intelligence, or even conducting targeted assassinations of key Ukrainian officials. Syrskyi reported that these tactics have increased significantly in recent weeks, as Russian commanders seek to create chaos and disorder among Ukraine’s military.
**Ukrainian Response: Anti-Sabotage Measures**
The Ukrainian military is responding to Russia’s tactics with a combination of military strength and intelligence gathering. Commanders are working to establish and strengthen fortifications, explosive and non-explosive barriers, as well as anti-drone tunnels. Additionally, Ukraine’s forces have created and deployed anti-sabotage reserves, designed specifically to counter the threat posed by Russian infiltration units.
As Syrskyi noted, Ukrainian troops remain vigilant in their efforts to repel Russian sabotage and small infantry groups attempting to enter Pokrovsk via infiltration tactics. Despite the challenges posed by these tactics, Ukraine’s military remains committed to defending its territory against Russia’s aggression.
