**Ukraine Boosts Energy Resilience**
The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, announced on January 24 that the country will increase its energy resilience through distributed generation and domestic gas production.
**Generating Power**
Shmyhal said that nearly 900 megawatts (MW) of distributed generation facilities will be commissioned this year. This is part of a broader effort to strengthen Ukraine’s energy sector amid ongoing Russian strikes targeting critical infrastructure. In 2024, 233 generating units with a total capacity of over 830 MW were connected.
**Repairing the Damage**
Repairs and reconstruction of the Ukrainian energy sector are ongoing, the Prime Minister added. About 4 gigawatts (GW) of thermal and hydropower capacity was restored in 2024. This year, it is planned to restore about 3 GW more.
**Supporting Energy Development**
The government has exempted energy equipment imports from value-added tax to support the restoration and creation of new distributed generation facilities. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that Russia’s goal in targeting Ukraine’s energy sector remains the same, despite ongoing attacks on critical infrastructure.
