**Georgian National Detained in US Over “Serious Public Threat”**
A Georgian national is currently being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Brooklyn, New York, after US border agents uncovered evidence of his involvement in serious crimes. According to a statement from the US Customs and Border Protection (USBP), the man was detained due to “damning intel” that revealed him as a significant public threat.
**Criminal History Revealed**
The USBP claims that the individual arrived in the United States in 2023, claiming credible fear. However, authorities suggest that he may have been attempting to flee his troubled past. The man’s criminal history includes serving nine years in prison out of a 25-year sentence for human smuggling across the Greek-Turkish border. He has also admitted to working with the Russian KGB.
**US Arrests and Charges**
In addition to his foreign convictions, the USBP states that the Georgian national was arrested in the United States on charges of petty theft and possession of stolen goods just seven months after arriving in the country. This alleged involvement in criminal activity so soon after entering the US has raised concerns about the individual’s potential threat to public safety.
**Removal Proceedings Underway**
The USBP confirms that the man is currently facing removal proceedings, which will determine his future status in the United States. As part of this process, ICE will assess whether he poses a risk to national security and public safety.
