**UK Ambassador Rejects Claims of Trying to Drag Georgia into Ukraine War**

The UK’s Ambassador to Georgia, Gareth Ward, has denied claims by the country’s ruling party that the West is trying to involve Georgia in Russia’s war with Ukraine. Ward said these claims are “simply not true”.

Instead, he explained that what the West asks of Georgia is to ensure that products under sanction do not pass through its territory. This includes maintaining financial and banking sanctions.

**Georgia Must Be Careful**

Ward stressed that Georgia needs to pay close attention to what products are passing through its territory to avoid illicit or battlefield goods. He asked, “Does Georgia want to maintain its reputation as a transparent and high-quality economy?”

He noted that Russia will try to use various channels, including banking, to get around sanctions and increase its revenues.

**Cooperation from the Georgian Government**

Ward acknowledged that he has seen cooperation from the Georgian government on issues related to battlefield goods. However, he emphasized that this is a wider issue – preventing Russia from subverting banking systems to profit from its war efforts.
