**Two Georgians Released from Russian Occupation**
On January 22, two Georgian citizens were released after being illegally detained by Russian occupation forces. Aleksi Mamulia and Ivane Japiashvili had been held since late last year.
**Background**
The two men were accused of helping a Ukrainian military deserter escape into Tbilisi-controlled territory. They were arrested near the village of Kvemo Nikozi, in the Gori municipality.
**Release Process**
According to the Georgian State Security Service (SSSG), the release was made possible through the use of an operational hotline mechanism with the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM). The SSSG stated that all responsibility for destructive actions in occupied regions and along the occupation line rests with Russia.
**Government Response**
The central government, in collaboration with international partners, continues to work towards releasing all Georgian citizens illegally detained in occupied territories.
