**Trump Says Ukraine Should Hold New Elections**
U.S. President Donald Trump believes Ukraine should hold new elections. He said this on February 18, calling Ukraine a “massive demolition site” under the leadership of President Volodymyr Zelensky.
This comes after US and Russian officials met in Saudi Arabia to discuss ending the war with Ukraine. Russia has been trying to discredit Zelensky’s government by saying he is an illegitimate leader. But Trump said this was his own opinion, not something the Russians were saying.
Trump claimed that Zelensky has a very low approval rating of 4%, but recent polls show that 52% of Ukrainians trust him. The US Constitution says elections cannot be held during martial law, which is in place since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.
Trump described the destruction of Ukraine as “cities blown to smithereens”, which is not true. He also said Zelensky’s government was partly to blame for the war continuing.
