According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), today the district election commissions will elect the heads and members of the precinct election commissions. The district election commissions must elect 9,153 heads and 15,255 members.
As stated in the information, those wishing to participate in the selection competition were able to submit an application to the relevant district election commission between August 11 and 14, or present the required documentation through a special electronic platform (Konkursi.cec.gov.ge). To simplify procedures, the CEC prepared a recommended application form for applicants, which was available at the district election commissions and also uploaded to the CEC’s website.
According to the CEC, a total of 24,314 applications were received. Out of these, 9,117 candidates will participate in the competition for the positions of precinct election commission heads, while the remaining 15,197 will compete for membership positions.
“The Central Election Commission calls on the district election commissions to act in accordance with the law and, when selecting members of the precinct election commissions, to take into account criteria such as: professional and electoral experience, qualified and impartial work experience within the election administration, and participation in educational projects of the election administration.
It should be noted that, according to the requirements of the law, the district election commission will elect certified members of the precinct election commissions, since by law it is mandatory for members chosen by the district commissions to hold a certificate. To provide maximum support for those wishing to obtain certification, the election administration has organized certification exams several times across the country since 2023, including the use of translated tests in the languages of ethnic minorities. Exams were also held this year. In addition, educational and training projects have been carried out, aimed at informing and developing the capacities of potential members,” the statement reads.
