The Chairperson of the National Movement, Tina Bokuchava, and the First Deputy Chairperson of the party, Levan Sanikidze, are on an official visit to Berlin, where they held high-level meetings.
According to the National Movement, the party leaders held a meeting with Daniel Kölbl, a member of the German Bundestag and Deputy Chairman of the Germany-South Caucasus Parliamentary Group. In addition, according to them, within the framework of the meeting, the parties discussed the detention of Levan Khabeishvili, Mikheil Saakashvili and political prisoners, the suspension of visa-free travel, and the political crisis in the country.
According to Tina Bokuchava, it is Germany that should take the initiative in order for Georgia to survive as a state and its European future to survive.
“During today’s meetings in the German Bundestag, as well as in the Foreign Ministry, I was convinced that Chancellor Merz, whom I met a little while ago, really meant what he said when he said that we would see a different Germany during his term as Chancellor. It is Germany that must take the initiative, among others, to ensure that Georgia survives as a state and our European future is preserved, and that millions of Georgian citizens are not sanctioned and visa-free travel is suspended, which is a real threat today.
We are working in Berlin, as well as in Brussels. Sanctions and visa-free travel should be specifically targeted at Ivanishvili and his entourage, the accomplices of the system, instead of Georgian citizens losing this great privilege.
We need to work on this. I am sure that very soon, through external and internal pressure, the regime in Georgia will change and we will go to Berlin not to talk about sanctions, but about bringing our country into the EU,” said Tina Bokuchava, whose comments were released by the party’s press service.
