The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a highly significant resolution following an urgent debate regarding Georgia—Europe is taking action to restore Georgian democracy and return Georgia to the path of European, normal, civilized development, stated Tina Bokuchava, Chairperson of the “United National Movement.”
According to her, the resolution does not focus on general calls but on the activation of a specific mechanism that will impose legal obligations on the “Ivanishvili regime” through the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
“The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a highly significant resolution following an urgent debate on Georgia, which we have been working on with our European partners for a long time. This is not about general calls but about the activation of a specific mechanism that will impose legal obligations on the Ivanishvili regime through the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg to repeal anti-democratic laws and stop human rights violations in the country. This is the first precedent of a call to activate this mechanism, and it indicates that the civilized world is deeply concerned about the threat of consolidating a one-party dictatorship in the country. It is taking action to restore Georgian democracy, to support the Georgian people with concrete steps, and to return Georgia to the path of European, normal, civilized development,” Tina Bokuchava stated.
