According to him, the statements of certain congressmen are slanderous, and “Georgia’s spirit toward the United States was also reflected in the letter published by President Qavelashvili a few days ago.”
“The whole of Georgia knows who the agents are, what they represent, and who they are fighting against. As for relations with China, strategic ties with this country are very important. Other countries around the world strive to have friendly relations with China. Utilizing the opportunities that China offers is significant. Georgia will do everything to deepen our relations further and bring our economies closer together. The statements of certain congressmen are based on lies and contain slander. A few days ago, the President published a letter that shows our spirit and main goal—to start relations from a clean slate,” Kaladze stated.
The Helsinki Commission will hold a hearing on September 10 titled “From Partner to Problem: Georgia’s Anti-American Turn,” according to a statement released by the U.S. Helsinki Commission.
According to the U.S. Helsinki Commission’s statement, over the past few years, the “Georgian Dream” has weakened Georgia’s institutions and undermined its sovereignty by attracting Chinese investments while simultaneously blocking U.S. companies’ access to Middle Corridor trade and Central Asia’s rare minerals.
“Georgia was once a key U.S. partner and a beacon of freedom in the Caucasus. Today, the ruling ‘Georgian Dream’ party is returning the country to Russia’s orbit and deepening ties with China and other U.S. rivals. Over the past few years, ‘Georgian Dream’ has weakened Georgia’s institutions and undermined its sovereignty by attracting Chinese investments while blocking U.S. companies’ access to Middle Corridor trade and Central Asia’s rare minerals. They have detained opposition representatives, used violence against peaceful demonstrators, and refused to relinquish power after elections widely recognized as illegitimate. This poses an immediate and serious threat to U.S. interests in the region,” the statement reads.
