**Key Developments in Global Politics and Markets**
This week, key events will impact the global politics and markets scene. Here are some of the most important happenings:
**Constitutional Court Vacancies**
Ukraine’s Constitutional Court is facing a major challenge as three judges’ nine-year terms expire at the end of January. Failure to convene a quorum may force the Court to temporarily cease its activities.
The vacancies, which include two seats held by President’s quota and one from Judges Convention, need to be filled promptly to ensure the Court can fulfill its constitutional responsibilities. Currently, four seats are vacant, and 12 judges are needed to conduct constitutional proceedings.
**EU Foreign Affairs Council**
On January 27, the European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council will convene to discuss pressing geopolitical issues, including Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha will attend via video call.
The council will also address the renewal of sanctions on Russia, which are currently stalled by Hungarian PM Viktor Orban. The EU remains hopeful for a resolution this week to avoid further delays or disruptions to its sanctions policy.
**Informal Meeting of Justice and Home Affairs Ministers**
Later in the week, an informal meeting of justice and home affairs ministers will occur in Warsaw on January 30 and run until January 31. Discussions will offer a platform for Ukraine to strengthen ties with member states and seek support.
**Other Key Events**
Here are some other key events happening this week:
* January 30: War & Business: Investing in Ukraine – A webinar series focusing on the reconstruction process
* January 30: Presentation of Monitoring Results on Ukraine’s IMF Programme and EU Assistance – An event addressing budget financing challenges, Ukraine’s readiness for the seventh IMF Programme review, and risks in implementing the Ukraine Facility Plan.
