**Ukraine Builds Underground Schools to Protect Students**

The city of Zaporizhzhia in southern Ukraine is building its third underground school. The new school will be able to hold 1,000 students and have two shifts.

Many children in frontline areas can’t go to school because of Russian missile attacks. These underground schools are being built to keep education going while keeping students safe.

**A Safe Place to Learn**

Ivan Fedorov, the head of Zaporizhzhia’s military administration, shared a video showing how close the new school is to finishing construction. Workers are setting up classrooms and other educational spaces.

This underground school is part of a bigger plan in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, which started building 11 underground schools last year. The first one opened on December 16th, with another following soon after.

**Keeping Education Going**

These underground schools help students continue their studies despite the danger around them. Before they existed, many students had to learn online because it wasn’t safe for them to go to regular school. Similar schools have also been built in Kharkiv, a city near the frontline.
