Public Defender Visits Journalist in Prison
The Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani, visited journalist Mzia Amaglobeli at Penitentiary Facility No. 5.
He checked the conditions of her detention and how her rights were being protected. He also listened to her story about her arrest and any possible mistreatment by police. They discussed the charges against her and why she is being kept in prison before trial.
This was not the first time someone from the Public Defender’s Office visited Mzia Amaglobeli. They had seen her on the day of her arrest and later at the penitentiary facility too.
The Public Defender told her about the steps his office is taking to help her, including a special report they sent to the Kutaisi Court of Appeals.
He hopes that the court will consider these points when making its decision. If Mzia Amaglobeli does have to stay in prison, he wants it to be for a good reason and not too long.
