The Prosecutor’s Office is releasing official information regarding the details of the organization and execution of Levan Jangveladze’s murder.
According to the agency, an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that brothers Davit and Giorgi Mikadze had certain disagreements and conflicts with Levan Jangveladze related to business activities. Acting on the orders of other individuals in conflict with Jangveladze, they planned the deliberate murder of Levan Jangveladze.
The agency explains that, to this end, D. and G. Mikadze contacted their friend and trusted associate, G.J., whom they informed of the plan to commit the murder. G.J. agreed, and the three of them began searching for an executor of the crime.
“For this purpose, they selected and established communication with G.U., a person trusted and closely associated with G.J. They informed G.U. that they had received an order for the deliberate murder of Levan Jangveladze and offered him material benefits in exchange for carrying out the murder, to which G.U. agreed.
G.J., D., and G. Mikadze systematically provided G.U. with the information necessary to commit the crime. G.J. and G.K. illegally acquired firearms in a group from S.Ts., one of which, a Glock 19 pistol, was handed over by G.J. to G.U.
On February 15 of this year, G.J. arranged a meeting with G.U., who had returned from Greece, near the ‘Tbilisi Tower’ hotel. At approximately 7:14 p.m., G.U. arrived at the agreed location and met with G.J., where D. and G. Mikadze also arrived at the hotel. G.J. and G.U. discussed the necessary details for committing the crime, including information provided by D. and G. Mikadze about Levan Jangveladze’s arrival in Georgia and his accommodation. Accordingly, G.J. instructed G.U. to monitor Jangveladze to select a suitable time and place for the murder.
Levan Jangveladze arrived in Georgia on February 16, 2025, and stayed at the ‘Ambassador’ hotel. Knowing Jangveladze’s whereabouts, G.U. also went to the ‘Ambassador’ hotel and began monitoring him and gathering information. The information obtained during the surveillance was communicated by G.U. to G.J., D., and G. Mikadze, as well as to others, through various means of communication.
In March of this year, D. and G. Mikadze, through G.J., provided G.U. with information about Levan Jangveladze’s arrival in Georgia and his movements on March 14. Accordingly, G.U. began active preparations to carry out the deliberate murder of Levan Jangveladze.
On March 14, 2025, Levan Jangveladze traveled to Georgia. This information was provided to G.U. by G.J. and the Mikadze brothers. At approximately 6:15 p.m., G.U. left Vazisubani by taxi and, around 8:40 p.m., arrived with a firearm at the area near Ilia Chavchavadze Avenue No. 7 in Tbilisi, where he waited for Levan Jangveladze’s arrival. Jangveladze, accompanied by his friend K.Z., arrived at a memorial service for a friend around 10:35 p.m. and left around 11:30 p.m. As Levan Jangveladze was walking with his friend on Chavchavadze Avenue, G.U. fired multiple shots from a firearm in Jangveladze’s direction. As a result of the injuries sustained, Levan Jangveladze died at the scene. After fulfilling his intent, G.U. also fired several shots at Jangveladze’s companion with the intent to kill, resulting in injuries to the companion’s health.
After committing the crime, G.U. fled toward Kareli, disposing of the crime weapon and a mobile phone with an activated number registered in Poland, which he used to actively communicate with G.J. On March 15, 2025, G.U. returned to Tbilisi and went to the ‘Tbilisi Tower’ hotel to meet G.J. Unable to find G.J., he attempted to contact him several times via the hotel’s phone and the social network WhatsApp. Subsequently, on March 16, G.U. went to the workplace of G.J.’s relative, M.B., to meet G.J., contacting M.B. by phone and leaving the location after about an hour. On March 17, G.U. returned to the area near M.B.’s workplace to contact G.J. but was unable to do so. On the same day, law enforcement officers detained G.U. near M.B.’s workplace.
A series of procedural and investigative actions were carried out in the criminal case, including interviewing dozens of witnesses, seizing hours of surveillance camera footage, ordering expert examinations, retrieving and processing information from mobile phones and their servicing towers, and seizing numerous pieces of material evidence.
On August 11, 2025, based on a court order, law enforcement officers detained G.M., G.K., and M.B. in connection with the criminal case of the contract killing of Levan Jangveladze.
The accused, brothers G. and D. Mikadze and G.J., were charged under Article 25/109, subparagraph ‘n’ of the Criminal Code (organizing a deliberate murder for hire), which provides for a penalty of up to 20 years or life imprisonment. G.K. was charged under Article 236, Part 6, subparagraph ‘a’ (illegal acquisition and storage of firearms in a group), which carries a penalty of up to 11 years of imprisonment. M.B. was charged under Article 375, Part 3, and Article 370, Part 3 of the Criminal Code (concealing a particularly serious crime and providing false information to obstruct justice), which provides for a penalty of up to 7 years of imprisonment.
A search has been announced for the accused G.J. and D.M.
The investigation in the criminal case continues at the Ministry of Internal Affairs to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the crime,” the statement reads.
