According to the Prosecutor’s Office, an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that one of the accused illegally acquired and stored 250 kilograms of the narcotic substance heroin abroad, concealed it within packages of wet wipes, and illegally imported it into Georgia through the “Red Bridge” border checkpoint. Subsequently, the cargo was stored in a warehouse in the village of Akhal Sofeli, Khelvachauri District. Later, part of the narcotic substance was handed over to the second accused, while the remaining portion, hidden within the cargo, was loaded onto a private truck trailer for international transit to Poland and transported to the Batumi port customs checkpoint.
On October 21, 2025, as a result of a search conducted by law enforcement officers on the truck, 250 kilograms of the narcotic substance heroin were seized.
The detainees have been charged under Article 260, Part 3, Subparagraph “a”; Article 260 Prima, Part 3, Subparagraph “a” (illegal transportation of a particularly large amount of narcotic substances); Article 260 Secunda, Part 9, Subparagraph “a” (illegal transfer of a particularly large amount of narcotic substances); and Article 262, Part 4, Subparagraph “a” (illegal importation of a particularly large amount of narcotic substances into Georgia and international transit) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years or life imprisonment as a penalty.
The Prosecutor’s Office has already applied to the court to impose pre-trial detention as a preventive measure for the accused.
