The position of a member of the Pension Fund’s Management Board is added as an exception to the restriction on a public servant holding another position in a public institution. Additionally, the non-remunerated activities of public servants employed in commissions and councils established to perform managerial-advisory functions in public service will no longer be classified as incompatible with their official duties.
The corresponding amendments are being introduced to the Law “On Combating Corruption,” which Parliament is considering under an expedited procedure.
The author of the bill is the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, and the initiator is the Government.
“An exception is made: if a commission or council is established to perform managerial or advisory functions, a public official may also be employed in that council, work there, and share their knowledge and experience. The key point is that no remuneration must be received for this. The principle remains that public funds must be spent frugally. The main thing is that people share their knowledge and experience – but again, without compensation,” explained Archil Gorduladze, Chairman of the Parliament’s Legal Issues Committee, during the committee session where the issue was discussed in the first reading and supported.
