**Parliament Changes the Way Judges are Chosen**
The Georgian Parliament has decided to stop holding a competition for picking members of the High Council of Justice. Instead, five of these members will be chosen through nominations by political groups or individual MPs.
This change is part of a larger package of laws that will limit the role of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in making decisions on public issues. Amendments to 14 different laws are planned to achieve this goal.
The proposal for these changes was made by MPs from two main political parties, “Georgian Dream” and “People’s Power”.
