**Last Hospital in North Gaza Governorate Evacuated Following Israeli Order**
In a disturbing development, the last hospital in North Gaza Governorate has been evacuated due to an Israeli military order. The al-Awda Hospital in Jabalia was forced to evacuate its patients and staff on Thursday evening, according to Dr Mohammed Salha, the hospital’s director.
**”A Lot of Bombing and Firing”**
Dr Salha told the BBC that the hospital had faced intense bombardment and firing from Israeli tanks over the past two weeks. Despite this, he initially refused to evacuate, citing the need for healthcare in the region. However, after seven hours of negotiation with Israeli forces, the evacuation was carried out at 20:30.
**Road Conditions Impede Ambulance Movement**
The hospital’s equipment could not be moved due to impassable road conditions, according to a statement from the World Health Organization (WHO). Staff had to carry patients over 300 meters to ambulances parked far away from the hospital because of the destroyed roads. A video sent by Dr Salha and verified by BBC shows a line-up of ambulances driving at night with lights and sirens.
**UN and WHO Condemn Israeli Actions**
The UN humanitarian agency OCHA stated that ongoing hostilities have damaged the hospital, disrupted accessibility, and created panic among civilians. The WHO also condemned Israel’s actions, stating that hospitals should never be militarized or attacked. “We plead to protect the hospital, staff, and patients,” said Dr Salha.
**Escalating Hostilities**
The Israeli military has announced plans to increase its offensive activity in areas where Palestinian terrorist organizations are active. This move has been met with condemnation from human rights groups and UN agencies, who argue that civilians should be protected during conflicts.
**Chaos in Gaza City**
Meanwhile, chaos is unfolding in Gaza City as Palestinians search for food amidst a deepening humanitarian crisis. Looting and security have collapsed, with aid distribution centers also experiencing problems due to alleged mismanagement by some organizations. The UN-backed assessment has stated that Gaza’s 2.1 million people are at “critical risk” from famine.
