**Russian Missile Strike Hits Dnipro, Damaging City and Iconic Music Institution**
On Tuesday, June 24, Russia launched a devastating missile strike on the city of Dnipro, leaving destruction and chaos in its wake. The attack resulted in the deaths of 18 people, with nearly 300 injured across the city. Among the damaged sites was the historic House of Organ and Chamber Music.
**Cultural Icon Survives Attack**
According to Anton Cherneta, director and artistic director of the institution, the blast wave shattered two large stained-glass windows and about 40 small ones in various parts of the building. Miraculously, the main musical instrument – a magnificent organ – remained intact. Despite the damage, Cherneta vowed that the House of Organ and Chamber Music would continue to thrive.
**A Symbol of Resilience**
The House of Organ and Chamber Music is a national architectural monument, built in 1913-1915 to mark the 300th anniversary of the Russian Romanov dynasty’s reign. The stunning building features a neoclassical style with elements of Baroque, designed by diocesan architect Heorhii Turovets. Artists Viacheslav Danylov and Serhii Isaiev contributed to the beautiful wall paintings and stained-glass windows.
**A Legacy of Devastation**
This is not the first time the House of Organ and Chamber Music has been targeted by Russian forces. On March 11, 2022, fragments from a Russian shell hit the walls and windows of the building during the full-scale war against Ukraine. The recent missile strike has dealt another blow to this cultural icon.
**A City in Crisis**
As a result of the Russian attack on June 24, 2025, 19 people were killed in Dnipro, with the total death toll reaching 21 in the region. Over 300 residents were injured, and infrastructure, residential buildings, medical facilities, and a train were damaged.
**A Call to Action**
Despite the devastation, Anton Cherneta remains steadfast, “This will all be restored. This won’t stop us.” The House of Organ and Chamber Music continues its work, with a concert season concluding this weekend. It is a powerful testament to the resilience of the Ukrainian people in the face of adversity.
