**Head of Maritime Transport Agency Fired**
The head of Georgia’s Maritime Transport Agency, Aleksi Akhvlediani, has lost his job. The Ministry of Economy made the announcement on July 9.
Akvlediani had been in charge of the agency since May 2023. However, he faced serious trouble when a former government leader tried to take his own life using a gun that belonged to him.
**Shocking Incident**
On July 7, Tornike Rijvadze, the ex-head of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, attempted to end his life at Akhvlediani’s home. The gun used in this incident belonged to Akhvlediani.
As a result, he was arrested on charges of careless firearm storage. A court set bail for him at 30,000 GEL and let him go.
**What This Means**
The firing of the Maritime Transport Agency head is significant because it shows that the government is taking action against those who make mistakes in sensitive areas like gun ownership.
In this case, Akhvlediani’s poor handling of his firearm led to a serious incident involving a high-ranking official. The government has likely decided that someone with such a track record can’t be trusted to run an important agency like the Maritime Transport Agency.
**What’s Next?**
As for what will happen next, only time will tell. But one thing is clear: the Ministry of Economy wants to make sure that those who hold public office are held accountable for their actions.
