**Georgia’s Government Under Fire: Opposition Channels and International Criticism**

The Georgian Dream party, which has been in power since 2012, is facing heat from both within and outside the country. The party has filed complaints against two opposition channels, Formula and TV Pirveli, with the Communications Commission for using language that questions the government’s legitimacy.

This move comes after recent changes to the Law on Broadcasting, which allow for stricter regulations on broadcasters’ content. The Georgian Dream party claims this is based on a “British model,” but many are skeptical about the true intentions behind these amendments.

**European Parliament and NATO Weigh In**

The European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) recently held a session to discuss their findings from a working trip to Georgia in May. Spanish MEP Nacho Sánchez Amor criticized the recent legislation passed by the Georgian parliament, calling it “completely contrary” to what is happening in the EU.

NATO’s Parliamentary Assembly also weighed in, suspending meetings of the Georgia-NATO Interparliamentary Council (GNIC) and reducing some of the Georgian delegation’s participation privileges. This decision was made after a six-month review launched in November 2024.

**European Commissioner Sounds Alarm**

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has sounded an alarm about Georgia’s situation, saying that receiving EU candidate status does not guarantee a successful accession process. She placed full responsibility on the Georgian authorities to take “credible steps” to reverse course and heed citizens’ calls for democracy and a European future.

**Occupied Territories and Russian Influence**

Meanwhile, Badra Gunba, the de facto president of occupied Abkhazia, has said that Moscow’s plan in Ochamchire does not involve establishing a naval base, but rather a “logistical support facility” for the Russian Black Sea Fleet. This comes as Georgia continues to face pressure from Russia.

**Russian Diplomatic Appointment**

Dmitry Olisov has been appointed Head of the Russian Federation’s Interests Section at the Swiss Embassy in Georgia. With his extensive diplomatic experience, this appointment could have significant implications for Georgia and its relations with Russia.
