Teona Akubardia, who was included in the party list of “Gakharia – For Georgia” during the 2024 parliamentary elections, has announced that she will continue her fight independently.
As Akubardia writes, she “did not grant legitimacy to the parliament” following the “unfree and unfair elections” and notes that the main mistake in the opposition is “not the refusal to enter parliament, but the lack of a unified vision around a common goal and mutual confrontation, at a time when the country faces the threat of losing its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
“I am sharing my decision to continue the fight independently to protect Georgia’s national interests, which is why I entered politics in 2020,” writes Teona Akubardia, a member of the “Gakharia – For Georgia” party, on social media.
“During the 2024 parliamentary elections, I was a non-partisan member of the ‘Gakharia – For Georgia’ party list and worked in the interests of the country’s sovereignty and security.
Like my twelve teammates, I did not grant legitimacy to Ivanishvili’s one-party parliament following the unfree and unfair elections.
Naturally, in the context of the regime’s reversal of the country’s domestic and foreign policy course and mass repressions, I was and remain in opposition.
The opposition’s mistakes are a relevant topic today, and much can be said about this. However, the main mistake is not the refusal to enter parliament but the lack of a unified vision around a common goal and mutual confrontation, at a time when the country faces the threat of losing its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
I firmly believe that without new, free, and fair parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners, the country cannot return to a constitutional path.
Therefore, within the scope of my abilities, I will continue the fight for the goal called a united European Georgia.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me in this struggle. I believe that, in the end, we will triumph,” stated Teona Akubardia.
