There is no legal provision according to which it is even theoretically possible to suspend visa liberalization – if you get into a bad mood now and say “I’m canceling it because I don’t like you,” we will not be able to do anything about it, – this statement was made to the media by Tengiz Sharmanashvili, a member of parliament from Georgian Dream.
According to Sharmanashvili, the EU has an “absolutely unfair attitude” towards Georgia.
He expressed hope that “when they finally start formalizing the aforementioned decision, they will consider that there is no legal basis for canceling visa liberalization.”
“There is nothing to call this except blackmail! According to the surveys they have funded and published, from the judiciary to economic development, from the democracy index to the environmental protection index, we are leaders. When you turn around after that and tell me with some invented topics that you will stop visa liberalization, when not a single point at which visa liberalization can be stopped has been met and you come up with some new directions, it is blackmail!
