“I will honestly say that I expected an acquittal for Tedo Abramov, given that the materials of the criminal case were clearly fabricated! It’s good that the court made an objective decision,” said lawyer Inga Jabanishvili to journalists.
Tedo Abramov, who was detained on charges of a drug-related crime, was found not guilty by Judge Tamar Mchedlishvili and was released from the courtroom. According to the lawyer’s explanation, the court’s decision was based on the absence of evidence against Abramov in the case.
“There was no evidence in the case; we’ve been saying this for eight months. From the very beginning, Tedo Abramov had a version of events, and we presented numerous pieces of evidence to support it. Tedo Abramov stated from the start that his rights were violated, that the search was conducted unlawfully, and that there were no standards met, neither for charging him nor, especially, for meeting the standard of proof beyond a reasonable doubt. There was no neutral evidence or video recording, even though the police officers had the means to do so. This became evident during the court hearings. I will honestly say that I expected this decision because the materials of the criminal case were clearly fabricated! Based on our analysis of the case, there were violations, and it was revealed in court that law enforcement officers provided false testimony, as the facts were contradictory. We assumed that the court would make a just decision, and it’s good that it made an objective decision,” Inga Jabanishvili stated.
As a reminder, Tedo Abramov was arrested on December 7. He was charged under Part 6 of Article 260 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to the acquisition, storage, or possession of a particularly large amount of narcotic substances.
This offense carries a penalty of 8 to 20 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
