The number of deportations of asylum seekers in Germany has increased, with the highest number of deportations carried out to Turkey and Georgia, according to information published by Tagesschau.
According to the German government, the number of people deported after being denied asylum reached 17,651 from January to September this year.
Notably, during the same period last year, this figure was 14,706.
The highest number of deportations—1,614 people—were carried out to Turkey, while 1,379 people were deported to Georgia.
Clara Bünger, a member of the Bundestag and the Left Party (Die Linke), criticized the German government’s deportation policy.
“When it comes to increasing deportations, the authorities no longer have any taboos. Mass deportations to countries like Turkey, which carries out repressions against leftists, Kurds, and the opposition? Apparently, in Germany’s current political climate, this is no longer considered a problem,” Bünger stated.
