**French-Trained Ukrainian Brigade Improving**
Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said on January 23 that the French-trained 155th “Anne of Kyiv” Brigade is gradually getting better at fighting. This is after reports showed the unit had poor leadership and training.
The brigade was deployed in November 2024 to a critical area called Donetsk Oblast. There were many problems, including high rates of losses and desertions. Syrskyi visited the area and said that all the negative things that happened will be looked at and used to improve the brigade’s training.
**Investigation Launched**
Ukrainian authorities have launched an investigation into the mismanagement of the 155th Brigade. The former commander was detained earlier this week. This has cast doubt on Ukraine’s plan to create new brigades with the help of Western partners.
**War Efforts Continue**
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that ending the war in Ukraine is not just about winning, but also about making sure it does not happen again. He was talking about a comment made by former US President Donald Trump.
The Ukrainian military is still fighting against Russian forces. On January 23, at least two people were killed and 46 injured in attacks across Ukraine. This includes an infant.
**International Support**
The European Union has agreed to give Ukraine $36 billion in financial help next year. This will be used to support the country’s efforts to fight Russia.
Meanwhile, North Korea is expected to send military units to Russia’s Kursk Oblast. This was announced by Ukraine’s military intelligence chief.
